At Ausland Interiors, design is a practice in balance. We approach each home with curiosity and respect for its architecture, its setting, and the people who live there. Every decision is guided by intention, how the space will feel, function, and evolve over time.
We believe a home should invite ease without sacrificing depth. Our process is rooted in thoughtful restraint, where natural light, honest materials, and timeless forms work together to create something lasting. Through collaboration, care, and experience, we create spaces that feel calm, connected, and personal to those who call them home.
Ausland Interiors was founded in 2014 by principal designer Ashley Ausland, who holds a master’s degree in interior architecture from UCLA. Her passion for design began early and has grown over more than twenty years of experience transforming houses into homes.
Ashley’s love of the construction process and her close collaboration with trusted trades allow her to bring even the smallest details to life. She is known for her deep respect for architectural integrity—the “bones” of a home—and believes that a well designed home will look good naked. With a lifelong appreciation for historical architecture, her work carries a sense of timelessness rather than trend. Ashley thoughtfully incorporates vintage pieces to create interiors that are both sustainable and cost-effective, believing that the layering of old and new is what gives a home character and soul. At the core of her work is a commitment to designing homes that elevate how her clients live and enjoy their everyday lives.
Cynthia brings a rare mix of creative vision and business strategy to the studio, shaped by an early career in marketing and product development for iconic brands. Her foundation in product design taught her to translate consumer pain points into innovative, functional solutions, bringing a thoughtful, analytical lens to every project. A Southern California native, she discovered her passion for interiors after renovating her own homes down to the studs, supported by studies in Interior Architecture at UCLA. A proud mom of two and dog-mom to Tilly, she’s active in Sandpipers and known as the studio’s Excel wizard, blending artistry, organization, and heart.
Kari is a designer with an instinct for balance — blending color, texture, and natural materials to create spaces that feel both refined and grounded. A Midwest native, Notre Dame alum, and proud military wife, she lives in Colorado Springs with her three young children and has mastered the art of making every house feel like home. Her background in graphic design and studies in Interior Architecture at UCLA inform her thoughtful approach, uniting creativity with practicality. A lifelong DIY-er inspired by nature and vintage design, Kari believes that beauty and function should always coexist with purpose.
We believe generosity extends beyond design. It shows up in how we listen, communicate, and care for our clients, collaborators, and community.
Design should bring joy to the process, the partnerships, and the finished spaces. We approach each project with gratitude and enthusiasm for the work we get to do.
Every choice matters. From the layout of a room to the texture of a fabric, our decisions are guided by intention and respect for how a home will live and feel.
Good design is never rushed. We edit with purpose, guided by balance, clarity, and care. Each layer is considered for how it contributes to the whole, creating spaces that endure with quiet beauty.
