Position

Lead Designer

Ausland Interiors is seeking an experienced Lead Designer to join our growing studio as we expand our portfolio of high-end residential and ground-up projects. This role is responsible for leading projects from concept through completion, including developing design concepts rooted in client needs and the studio’s aesthetic, producing detailed construction documentation, and coordinating closely with clients, builders, and key trades. The ideal candidate brings a refined eye, strong technical foundation, and fluency in CAD, and is comfortable independently managing multiple projects while collaborating closely with the Principal to deliver thoughtful, well-executed interiors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management
    Maintain a comprehensive understanding of each project from start to finish, independently leading and managing multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating closely with Principal Designer, on overall design vision, material selections, and key decisions.

  • CAD
    Draft, revise, and oversee comprehensive construction documentation—including floor plans, elevations, architectural details, furniture layouts, reflected ceiling plans, millwork drawings, and interior and exterior renderings—ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with design intent from concept through execution. 

  • Sourcing
    Research, source, and specify furniture, fabrics, lighting, surfaces, finishes, hardware, wallcoverings, window treatments, and accessories that align with the Ausland Interiors aesthetic.

  • Finish Schedules
    develop and maintain all schedules – doors, windows, cabinetry, plumbing, lighting, tile/stone, millwork, wall finishes–ensuring all details are accurate for all trades involved.

  • Design Presentations & Spec Books
    Develop comprehensive design presentations with all inspiration, construction drawings, product/finish selections for client approval and design intent for construction handoff.

  • Site Visits & Builder/Trade collaboration
    attend all site visits and communicate with build partners through in-person meetings, calls, e-mails, etc to ensure design intent is executed as planned. Responsible for recapping decisions and notes/photos to key partners and lead follow-up as required.

  • Vendor Management & Procurement
    Communicate with vendors to request pricing, lead times, memos, and samples. Lead purchasing, order tracking, receiving warehouse communication and budget management.

  • Photo Shoots & Installs
    Oversee project installations and assist in photo shoot preparation and execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a related field
  • 4-6 years of experience working at a high-end residential interior design studio managing high-end new-build and/or extensive remodels from concept through installation
  • Strong design sensibility with a portfolio that reflects a thoughtful, elevated residential aesthetic
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office / Google Workspace. Knowledge of Canva and Houzz Pro is a plus but not required.
  • Has a refined design eye and values timeless, layered interiors rooted in natural materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the interior design and construction process, from start to finish for high-end residential ground-up build projects 
  • Self-motivated, proactive, self-starter, with the ability to be adaptable, multitask daily, manage shifting priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to all details and overall organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize appropriate levels of detail to communicate to each stakeholders including Principal Designer, Client, Contractor, etc.
  • Ability to problem solve and approach challenges with curiosity and creativity while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Strong foundation in math required for space planning and product pricing

Position

Interior Design Assistant

Ausland Interiors is seeking an Interior Design Assistant to support our growing studio and contribute to the development of thoughtful, well-executed residential interiors. This role supports projects from concept through completion, assisting with design development, construction documentation, specifications, and day-to-day project coordination. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, design-driven, and collaborative, with a strong interest in high-end residential work and a desire to grow within a fast-paced, creative studio environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing
    Support lead designers in sourcing FF&E - materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, plumbing, appliances, textiles, art and decor that align with the project vision and studio aesthetic.

  • CAD
    Draft and revise floor plans, elevations, and furniture layouts using AutoCAD or similar software.

  • Design Documentation
    Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including spec books, finish schedules by category, and mood boards.

  • Presentations
    Contribute to project presentations with clean, curated visuals and organized formatting.

  • Site Visits
    Attend site visits and installations as needed, supporting project management with notes, photos, and coordination tasks.

  • Procurement
    Provide administrative support with purchasing, order tracking, receiving warehouse communication and budget management.

  • Vendor Management
    Communicate with vendors to request pricing, lead times, memos, and samples.

  • Sample Library
    Organize and maintain the materials library, studio samples, and product inventory.

  • Office Administration
    Lead all general office tasks including receiving packaging, ordering supplies, general organization

  • Photo Shoots & Installs
    Support photoshoot prep and styling as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in a design or design-adjacent studio preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office / Google Suite. Knowledge of Canva and Houzz Pro is a plus but not required.
  • Strong foundation in math required for space planning and product pricing
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • A collaborative spirit with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Familiarity with high-end residential materials, finishes, and design process
